They opened for such acts as Smokey Robinson and The Young Rascals. He received his formal musical training from the prestigious Royal Toronto Conservatory of Music, later completing studies in Jazz. Carl’s first major professional success in America came as a member of Capitol Records’ recording artists, “Skylark,” led by internationally renowned producer-composer David Foster. The group’s first hit was “Wild Flower.” With the success of “Skylark” and his growing reputation as a dynamic performer, Carl embarked on a solo career, recording two albums with A&M Records. His hit single included “Baby Hang Up the Phone” and “Heart Be Still.”
He subsequently toured and recorded three albums with the group. Carl has been working in this field for many years with a long list of talents that he has been involved with such as, David Foster, Maurice White, Dave Mason and Oingo Boingo, just to name a few. Carl has released his own album and singles “Carl Graves” on A&M records. He continues to work with other music groups as a guest artist. Carl is also an experienced vocal coach and has coached some of the biggest names in the business (Jada Pinkett Smith). Carl continues to develop, mentor, and produce some of the brightest young talent in the music industry. He has, and continues to assist musicians who are new in singing and composing. He is easy to work with and takes care to bring out the best in every artist in or out of the studio.
